Cottage to rent in The Quay, St. Ives, Huntingdon PE27

Description St Ives is a delightful historic market town which is situated on the banks of the river Great Ouse. Thought to be of Saxon origins with later Medieval influences and a focal point of the town is the 15th century bridge and chapel over the river. St Ives is the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, whose statue presides over the bi-weekly market. There are a delightful array of attractive period buildings in the centre of the town, a good variety of independent shops, a Waitrose supermarket, various restaurants and cafes together with a number of recreational and educational facilities. For the Cambridge commuter there is access to the A14 and the Guided Busway from the town provides scheduled bus services into the Science Park in Cambridge via dedicated concrete rails and onwards to Cambridge station then on dedicated rails again to Addenbrookes hospital and the new Biomedical campus. The A14 leads south to Cambridge, the M11 and on to the M25 and London. Northwards it leads to Huntingdon (which has a mainline railway station with services into London Kings Cross taking from 50 minutes) the A1, M1 & M6. Cambridge offers comprehensive shopping, schooling, recreational and cultural facilities as well as renowned independent schools for all age groups. Other independent schools in the area include Kimbolton, Oundle and Uppingham. There are local schools in St Ives for all ages groups. 7 The Quay is a charming Grade II listed period cottage in the centre of St Ives, right on the quay side enjoying superb views over the river Great Ouse and the ancient town bridge (no longer open to traffic). Of part rendered, brick elevations and part timbered construction beneath a tiled roof and provides surprisingly generous accommodation over 3 floors. The house was originally occupied by the town's merchants and more recently (together with its two adjoining neighbours), was previously a commercial property and has recently been the subject of an extensive renovation program. Windows on the south-west facing front elevation have been fitted with plantation-style shutters, there is a newly fitted kitchen and two new bathroom suites whilst the immense character of the building has been carefully retained. Particular features of note include some substantial exposed timbers, paneling, and an impressive fireplace in the main reception room. Council Tax Band: E Deposit: £ Holding Deposit: £553.84 Ground Floor: Entering from the The Quay, the fine, well-proportioned reception room has a fireplace with part exposed brick chimney breast and woodburning stove. Flanking this are some useful shelves and there are two deep understairs cupboards to the left. A turning staircase leads from here to the first floor and there is also access to the kitchen/breakfast room which has been fitted with a contemporary range of grey and white faced units, a sink unit with an arched vegetable spray tap, built-in dishwasher and wall mounted gas fired boiler. There is a substantial central island unit incorporating a breakfast bar, drawers, a 4 ring hob and oven below with extractor below. Beyond is a charming snug sitting room (or dining if preferred) with deep cupboards either side of the arched fireplace (unused) one containing a former safe. Beyond the kitchen is a utility area with a glazed door to the small paved outside area, and a cloakroom. First Floor: There are three bedrooms on the first floor, two of which are at the front with delightful views over the river, together with a re-fitted bathroom and separate shower room. The second bedroom is also worthy of note as it is part panelled with exposed timbers and a dual aspect, there is a linen cupboard on the inner landing. On the upper floor is a fourth bedroom which is a vaulted room spanning the whole of the front of the house. Directions Take the A14 towards Huntingdon. Take junction 26 signposted Biggleswade and St Ives B1040. At the roundabout take the first exit and continue over the A14 towards St Ives and Hemingford Grey. After around 2 miles at the next roundabout take the first exit 'Low Road' and then turn first right into London Road.
