There are great local amenities; Ivy & May hairdressers, Haxby Road dry cleaners, two small local shops (Londis and Cooperative), Jaipur Spice does a great curry, and there is pleasant children's park around the corner, Clarence Gardens Playground. York Hospital is 0.3 miles on foot. St. Johns University is 0.7 miles on foot. More local recommended restaurants just off Clarence Street are The Monkey and The Dog Eat Thai for Thai and Coconut Lagoon for Indian. There are many independent shops, cafes and restaurants down Gillygate, which is on the walk into the city centre. Getting around If you are catching the bus from York Station, jump on First bus 1 or 5 and get off at Clarence Gardens (Stop ID: ). To catch the bus to the city, the nearest bus stop is also on Haxby Road, Walpole Street (Stop ID: ) which is a few minutes walk away. Frequent buses go to the city centre if you don't want the 15 minute walk. All bus routes go to the city and then on to the Railway Station a few minutes further away.
